| Hi everyone, just wondering if anybody knows how long Glutenzyme stays active for? I'm lactose and gluten intolerant, by this i mean not the usual side effects of bloating & gas etc but in terms of coming out in acne around 3-4 days after eating any food/drink containing lactose or gluten. P + and Glutenzyme have worked a treat but wondered how long the Glutenzyme stays active for. Any help much appreciated

Hi Dav
I can only tell you of my own experience.I would imagine it treats different people in different ways, as do most enzymes.
With me, I take one capsule every morning before breakfast to take care of the bread I have for breakfast. For the rest of the day the only other gluten I eat is in a small rock bun or biscuit in the evening. I eat gluten-free bread (from Morrissons Supermarket) for lunch.
What I find strange is the 'acne' you say you get.
Does anyone else get this?
cheers

I recommend you take a capsule before each meal containing gluten at first. You may experiment yourself, as I do not use it. But I think it may last several hours... do not think the whole day.
Let us know how you get on.

| I suffer from acne as a symptom of CS, but I haven't gotten down to a time of when it breaks out. I've only been diagnosed since last August so I'm coming up on one year. However, I 'relapsed' and went on a gluten eating rampage in October because I convinced myself I had been miraculously healed. My other symptoms are extreme fatigue, 'brain fog' (an inability to organize my thoughts), as well as cold extremities and acne. The later two tend to last for months after ingesting gluten. A friend just told my about glutenzyme and I am SOO excited to try it! I can't believe it's real. Hopefully it works for me! |

Hi Stacy
Yes.I can understand why you are excited about discovering Glutenzyme.
I found this aid for GI's a couple of years ago and have not had any problems since.
cheers

If I cheat and have some normal soy sauce with a bit of gluten(wheat) in it I get acne round my mouth...
As my boss used to say he could tell how well I was by the state of my face... Joy!
Some otehr food triger it too but then I weigh up looking not my best and enjoying a meal out at the chinese and risk that they forget to use my gluten free soy sauce... or not eating out...
its irritating.
The brain fog! yes, I didn't get that so bad but Chris did - since sorting out his diet he is brilliant - can control his thoughts, ideas etc and get them on paper/computer...
If I have a big meeting or need to be really onteh ball I take a Ginkgo Biloba in teh morning to help focus my head and improve memory (I can get very forgetful, or was that the had trauma? nothing more relaxing than having no short term memomery for a few days... yet they did not notice at work...)
I get extreme exhaustion - well diagnosed with ME - but if I have eaten badly I have no energy and have passed out in a meal before... have to laugh about it as otehrwise I get depressed....
And I too get teh cold extremeties, cold finger... feet, bottom... warm heart though and the wind warms me up...
STill not sure it is all related to food - but you are what you eat...
Think I'm going to get some enzymes after reading all these posts... |

Hi all
I am a member of the Coeliac Society and today I have sent them an enquiry about Glutenzyme Plus.
Also after doing a search on them I found this information:
"Suggested intake:
One capsule taken with any meal contianing wheat, oats, barley and rye. Not suitable for individuals iwth colitis, gastritis, gastritis due to pregnancy or ulcerative conditions of the stomach or colon. In individuals with Coeliac diseases other factors must be considered and avoidance of cereals containing gluten is advisable. "
This statement advises avoiding cereal with gluten for Coeliacs, yet some of you are recommending them as if you are the makers of this suplement and going to benefit from the sale of these.
Anyone who is Coeliac and considering taking these as an alternative to avoiding gluten, I advise you discuss this with your Coeliac specialist befor doing so!

Hi All
I have received a reply from the Coeliac Society today with regards to my request for information about the use of Glutenzyme. This is their reply:
Dear Lynne,
The concept of developing an enzyme to help treat coeliac disease is not
new. There are a number of research projects around the world that are
looking at using enzymes that could, in the future, provide less dietary
restriction for people with coeliac disease.
Coeliac UK is currently funding research which is looking at the toxic
proteins that cause the gut damage in coeliac disease. Although still in
progress, we expect this research will help in providing new treatments
for the condition.
Further information about research projects funded by Coeliac UK can be
found on the 'About us' section of our website: www.coeliac.org.uk
Although new advances in the field of treatment of coeliac disease are
exciting and promising, there is still a long way to go before being
able to apply these potential treatment options in humans. Any reports
so far have been strictly limited to research projects. We have no
information about their use in the long term and the possible side
effects which could be a limitation in their application.
In summary, people with coeliac disease should not take enzyme
supplements such as Glutenzyme, to help treat their coeliac disease - no
supplements have been licensed for routine use in humans. A life-long
gluten-free diet is currently the only recommended treatment for people
with coeliac disease.

I should say at this stage that the packaging does state, "In individuals with coeliac disease other factors must be considered and avoidance of cereals containing gluten is advisable".
When I first heard about Glutenzyme, I was very excited, and then a little sceptical. It just sounded a little too good to be true. I thought that if it were truly effective the buzz in the coeliac community would have been unmissable. |

Hi Kannan
thanks for your observations
But it must be repeated again, as this site has done several times, that the producers have always pointed out that Glutenzyme Plus is only for Non Coeliac patients so I don't quite understand what it is you are reporting?
Perhaps you would like to read your letter again and note its ambiguity.

| I would not recommned the enzyme to someone with "acne" in case it was the skin problem that coeliacs get. Glutenzyme is Ok for people who test negative for coeliac but still feel better not eating wheat. |
