Hi Chris, I've only just signed up, so I'm probably wrong, but it looks like nobody has replied to your posting, so here goes...

My name's Greg. I'm 30 and have been Coeliac since i was 9. There's a whole bunch of stuff to say, so bear with me. Before i dive in, I strongly recommend you get as many views on Coeliac as possible. Coeliac can vary massively from person to person, so read a lot and pick the stuff that makes the best sense.

Without sounding too cynical, don't expect too much help from doctors. In my experience, once diagnosed, it simply comes down to keeping a REALLY careful diet and looking after your health. They don't seem to have much more to offer. the only thing I find doctors good for is a regular prescription of GF foods.

I find my biggest reaction to gluten is definitely mental. Much like you, i suffer from anxiety, depression, mood swings, and not really knowing what is going on (my wife pretty much has to wait for me to come out of it before i can take onboard that i am in any way altered). I spent a long time unable to find any mention of this side to coeliac, and didnt know how to cope with it.

As for physical reactions, the burning skin is interesting. Could you describe what you mean? I suffer from insomnia, which is mostly caused by an intense aching/burning sensation in my limbs, particularly my elbows and arms. It is only soothed by constantly moving the joints.

I usually manage all of this, (and the usual platter of symptoms) with a diet and im either completely or mostly free from symptoms, so it does work! Ive been suffering recently with increased symptoms and this seems due to wheat being used in more and more minor ingredients, so I have been revising my diet and eliminating trace sources of gluten with good results. I can also say that i found the Glutenzyme tablets from biocare pretty helpful to reduce they symptoms too.

i hope some of this is helpful. If you want any specific info on diet, ingredients, etc, I'm happy to advise as best as i can.

Hi greg
Welcome to our friendly Forum here.
You are especially welcome because of your knowledge of symptoms and effects of your coeliac problems. There are lots of our subscribers who will benefit from your knowledge, I am sure.
I hope you will stay with us.
If I can just add a little agreement with your mention of Glutenzyme Plus Tablets. I personaly was diagnosed with Non-Coeliac Gluten Intolerance a few years ago and started to take the Glutenzyme tablets from here. In my own case,I eventually lost my gluten intolerance after 3 years and never needed to take any more tablets. But remember I was non-coeliac gluten intolerant, not coeliac.
regards
Eddie Johnson
